Healthy Androscoggin is very excited to announce the recent addition of Amanda Hutchins as the new Child and Adolescent Health Promotion Coordinator. Hutchins will coordinate all of the youth programming for Healthy Androscoggin, including working with area schools and community youth groups to implement health promotion curricula as well as further developing Healthy Androscoggin’s youth and internship programs. She will also address child environmental concerns, such as lead poisoning awareness, by assisting with the Healthy Homes Healthy Families classes and educating landlords about lead poisoning prevention; as well as the LEAP! project which provides resources and technical assistance to local childcare agencies so that they can create healthier practices and environments.
Amanda Hutchins brings a multidisciplinary background to Healthy Androscoggin. She recently finished her Master’s degree in Nutrition and Health Promotion at Simmons College where she was a graduate assistant in the Nutrition department. As an intern, she was involved with the Alfond Youth Center’s Kid Power Program which focuses on creating lifetime physical fitness and healthy eating habits. She was the Winslow Teen Rec. Coordinator in which she interacted with teens and developed lasting relationships with them. Additionally, she instructed a college level Wellness course at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts and served as a member of the AmeriCorps program there. Amanda has experience in both corporate and community environments within the health promotion field, but her passion is working with youth.
