Families in Action

Next workshop begins April 25th, 5:00 p.m. at the Lewiston Middle School Library.

Families in Action is a free workshop for parents and their teen or pre-teen. It is a research-based discussion workshop that offers a unique approach to enhancing parent-teen interaction. Families gain strategies and skills that are valuable as both parent and child navigate the teen years. Families in Action has been shown to have positive and measurable impacts on areas such as enhancing success in school, increased family cohesion, and preventing substance abuse. Workshops are fun and interactive and include video presentations, discussion, and fun activities for parents and teens. The Families in Action workshop consists of six sessions held once a week.

Families in Action workshops are lead by two facilitators from Community Concepts who are experienced in family education and counseling.

Parents learn helpful skills and strategies to guide their children through the challenging   teen years.

Pre-teens and teens learn communication techniques they can use at home, at school, and throughout their lives.

Parents AND teens learn more about each other in a safe, fun, and confidential setting.

Topics covered in Families in Action include:

  • Courage and Self Esteem
  • Responsibility and Discipline
  • Cooperation and Communication

  • Problem Solving
  • Prevention Strategies

What parents and teens are saying about Families in Action:

I have tools to use to parent better.

We got to express our feelings and I learned that we all have a part in the family.

This was a great growth experience for both my teen and myself.  We both learned a lot about why we act/react the way we do with each other — and we have new resources to investigate now.”

There is a lot to learn.  You can share challenges with other parents — you are not alone!

Next workshop begins April 25th, 2012.
