Get Fit & Win 2011 is now complete. We encourage you to continue your exercise this fall and winter by using one of our generic activity logs generic activity logs.
Get Fit & Win is a FREE program designed to encourage people in Androscoggin County to start or continue exercising - in any way you like! Successful participants are eligible for cash drawings of $100, $100, and $250 and other great prizes from local businesses!
We will provide you with:
- An activity log for recording your exercise.

- Periodic mailings/e-mailings with handy physical activity tips.
- A list of community events to help you get active.
- For those who request one when registering, a FREE Recreational Opportunities Guide, which contains hundreds of ways and local places where you can get active.
Participant Information
- Get out and exercise for 10 weeks: May 24th - August 2nd. You can exercise anytime and anywhere, selecting the type of activity that works best for you. Just make sure to record your exercise on the Activity Log. You may fill out your log on paper or electronically.
- Return the activity log to Healthy Androscoggin by August 9th and attend the Get Fit & Win summer celebration on August 16th, 2011 at the Bates College Amphitheater (see details below).
Exercise Ideas
Exercise includes anything that gets the participants moving, including, but not limited to:
- Walking/Running
- Hiking
- Biking
- Rollerblading
- Nordic Walking (walking with the use of specialized poles)
- Canoeing
- Kayaking
- Swimming
- Playing ball with your kids
- Even mowing the lawn (provided it is a push-mower, not the riding variety)
Here are some example of activities in each Intensity Level:
Low Intensity:
- Walking slowly
- golf (powered cart)

- swimming (slow treading)
- gardening
- pruning
- bicycling (very light effort)
- dusting or vacuuming
- conditioning exercise
- light stretching or warm up
Moderate Intensity:
- Walking briskly
- golf (pulling or carrying clubs)
- swimming (recreational)
- mowing lawn (power motor)
- tennis (doubles)
- bicycling (level terrain or with a few hills)
- scrubbing floors or washing windows, weight lifting
Vigorous Intensity:
- Racewalking
- jogging or running
- swimming laps
- mowing lawn (hand mower)
- tennis (singles)
- bicycling (more than 10 mph or on steep uphill terrain)
- moving or pushing furniture
- circuit training
Get Fit & Win Final Celebration
- The Get Fit & Win Final Celebration is a chance for participants to celebrate their successes getting active and includes a motivational guest speaker and prize drawings for participants.
- Prizes Include:
- $250, $100 and $100 Monetary Prizes!
- Other great prizes from local businesses
- Eligibility Requirements for Monetary Prizes:
- Must identify current activity level and goal
- Must record your physical activity for 10 weeks (log sheet provided) and return completed log to Healthy Androscoggin via fax, regular mail or drop-off, by the date on activity log. See the log for more details.
- Must live, work or go to school in Androscoggin County and be 18 years of age to win cash prizes. Other prizes are available for those who do not meet these requirements, including special prizes for kids!
For prizes provided at the Final Celebration, including all the monetary prizes, you must be present to win. Other prizes will be available throughout the program for those unable to attend the Final Celebration.

From College Street, Park on the road and cross the
grassy area heading toward “Lake Andrews” (the
pond.) The amphitheater is between the pond and Olin
Arts.
