Healthy Androscoggin
Physical Activity
The Challenges
  • More than half of Androscoggin County adults are not physically active for at least 30 minutes1, five or more times a week, which is the amount recommended by the Centers for Disease Control2.
  • Nearly 17% of Maine high school students do not participate in moderate or vigorous physical activity3.

Healthy Androscoggin is meeting the challenge

  • The Get Fit and Win Program
    • Each summer, Healthy Androscoggin, in conjunction with other organizations, sponsor Get Fit and Win, a program encouraging residents to incorporate more physical activity into their daily lives. Participants keep a weekly activity log and are eligible for prizes at the end of the 10 week program. In addition to using the activity log, here are some tips for maintaining safe and effective exercise in your daily life.
  • Open Doors
    • An initiative in which local schools make their gyms and hallways available for walking in the winter months, similar to the Auburn Mall's program
  • The Recreational Guide
    • Through funding from the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, Healthy Androscoggin, LA Trails and Androscoggin Land Trust created this comprehensive list of recreational opportunities in Androscoggin County, including maps detailing the location of trails and walking routes as well as physical activity tips.
